Alice@97.3 Transmitter

fmx3.jpg - 26.7 K

This is the front of our standby transmitter. It is a Sparta/Bauer model 620, 20,000 watt transmitter. This was our main transmitter until September 1994 when the Broadcast Electronics FM-20B was installed. Before CBS acquired the 97.3 frequency back in the late 1970's, this was the transmitter for KEAR FM.

Also visible in this photo on the left side, is a green box. This box is the controller and power transfer switch for our backup power generator. Behind the transfer switch you can see a gray/green nitrogen tank. The nitrogen is fed into the transmission line (the line that connects the transmitter to the antenna on the tower) to keep moisture from seeping into line and shorting it out.
